‘Tourism’s Horizon: Travel for the Millions’, the book

In 2025, Tourism’s Horizon: Travel for the Millions, the Substack blog and “Good Tourism” Insight Partner, published a book of the same name compiled by its founder Dr Jim Butcher.

The book is divided into two parts: a collection of in-depth interviews with leading scholars reflecting on the evolution and future of tourism; and a series of thought-provoking essays drawn from the TH:TM Substack and The “Good Tourism” Blog.

Archived below are the “GT” Insights that were adapted for the Tourism’s Horizon: Travel for the Millions book, and the TH:TM interview summaries and reflections published as “GT” Insights. Enjoy this collection and know that there is so much more content in the TH:TM book, which is available in print and electronic formats.

The importance of languages is universal.  However, in native English-speaking countries such as the United Kingdom, language education has been neglected.  This has implications for the inbound travel, tourism, and hospitality industries and their workers, according to Karen Thomas and Jim Butcher. Travel & tourism and transportation infrastructure are inextricably linked. The former is almost wholly dependent on the latter.  As stakeholders in travel, tourism, leisure, and hospitality, do we take for granted how we move from place to place? Saverio Francesco Bertolucci shares his thoughts in the first in a series of “Good Tourism” Insights initiated by […]

Is ‘travel for everyone’ a prerequisite for truly sustainable tourism?
