Prepare now for a surge in ecotourism demand with a CRTS workshop

Eco­tour­ism is in high demand right now in places where phys­ic­ally-dis­tanced out­door activ­ity is pos­sible. And when the world finally breaks its COVID shackles, those who have been locked down for months in urb­an envir­on­ments will likely be des­per­ate for a taste of nature.

To help pre­pare stake­hold­ers for that surge, The Centre for Respons­ible Tour­ism Singa­pore (CRTS) will explore the what, why, and how of eco­tour­ism oper­a­tions in an online work­shop to take place Wed­nes­day, May 19

Com­men­cing 1530 Singa­pore time (0930 CET), the two and a half hour instruc­tion­al event will be fol­lowed by an hour-long vir­tu­al tech­nic­al tour of an eco­tour­ism site.

“Estab­lish­ing eco­tour­ism is much more com­plic­ated than a cas­u­al observ­er might assume,” CRTS founder Kev­in Phun said. “It involves a lot of pre­par­a­tion. And the time required to engage with the loc­al com­munity to under­stand their fears, con­cerns, hopes and expect­a­tions, and to work with them to estab­lish object­ives, should not be underestimated.”

Kev­in, who will per­son­ally con­duct the work­shop, said: “I will equip you with the skills and tools to start eco­tour­ism in an area, whatever the nat­ur­al offer­ings there could be, and whatever the com­munity there may be like.”
